You were tossing and turning for hours the night before.

Whether it was a heavy weekend of late nights and lie-ins or a random bout of insomnia, it was 3am before you got to sleep.

You were sure you set your alarm (maybe you did) but you slept right through it…

Unfortunately for social conventions, sleeping in on a workday is not really okay when you have a job to hold down.

Here are 14 moments we go through every time we oversleep.

1. You wake up feeling so fresh.

The 14 stages of getting a fringe cut into your hair

The 14 stages of getting a fringe cut into your hair http://ift.tt/1UhU1AW Deni Kirkova

Having long, lovely hair is great – but it can get a bit boring sometimes.

Yes, everyone tells you how much it suits you, and perhaps it took you ages to get it like this.

But sometimes you just crave change.

You learned your lesson about dramatic change in 90s when you got that crazy asymmetric bob. But a fringe is much less of a big deal, isn’t it?

You’ve seen people it suits so well and you really think you’ll look just as good as them.

Unfortunately, when it comes to hair, things don’t usually go exactly to plan.

Here are the 14 stages most of us go through when getting a fringe cut.

The best food doesn’t just taste good. It changes your whole life.

And this cake ticks both boxes. Because our minds have been irrevocably messed with. We don’t know what to believe anymore. Is anything real? Is colour even a thing? And dear lord, will someone cut us a slice?

Baker CharlotteSometimes shared a video of a cake she made. But this was not just any cake. This was a magical cake, that changes colours as you spin it around.

We watched it about five times, and we just didn’t know what to think. What is this sorcery?

17-year-old vlogger hits back at bullies with powerful video http://ift.tt/1Pwo1d3 alisonlynch2013

According to a recent YouGov study, one in five teens in the UK have been a target of cyberbullying. A fifth of victims missed school as a result, with similar numbers going on to have suicidal thoughts.

Lauren Brocious, a 17-year-old student and vlogger from Winchester, Virginia, knows how that feels.

But, rather than let the bullies’ labels and words define her, she has hit back in a powerful anti-bullying video.

‘I was cyberbullied in eighth grade and I just felt like I couldn’t go to school and I couldn’t talk to people because I was so worried about what people were saying about me,’ Lauren told WHAG.

She explained: ‘My good friend was telling that she was being cyberbullied and that people were saying not very nice things about her and that kind of gave me the motivation to make a video.’

The video has now been viewed over 48,000 times… Read the full story http://ift.tt/eA8V8J December 30, 2015 at 09:51AM

This wildlife documentary-style parody of gym culture is spot on http://ift.tt/1R7AjZb alisonlynch2013

We spend our lives watching David Attenborough wildlife documentaries, marvelling at the strange stuff the animal kingdom gets up to.

But what if the tables were turned?

Enter the team at Buff Dudes and their spot-on parody of gym culture.

If you’re set on getting fit for the new year, be warned – you are entering a savagely competitive landscape.

The film begins with the journey of a young female human, whose emergence ‘marks the return of the new year resolutioners after months of apartment confinement’.

Her journey is a perilous one, as she comes across fully developed human males in the midst of their exercise cycles and sexually aroused predators who watch over the harsh free-weight terrain.

Want to bring your baby up to be the musical genius of your dreams? Well, now you can.

With a new device called the Babypod you can actually emit music into your own vagina, relaxing your baby with the beautiful sounds of Mozart.

Or Drake, if that’s more your kind of thing.

Designed by the Institut Marquez, a leading international centre in gynaecology, obstetrics and assisted Reproduction in Barcelona, the little gadget is made to fit inside the vagina where it will fill your womb with the music of your choice.

They carried out a test in 2014 on hundreds of pregnant women, comparing unborn babies listening to music in the womb both abdominally (played into the belly from the outside) and internally, through the vagina.

The test showed that babies who had music played from outside of the womb didn’t generate a response to the music they were played.

i'm masturbating I told you I'd be doing that all day samantha sez and the city

Sweden brought us loads of joy this year when they finally, finally came up with a catchy term for female masturbation: klittra.

The word comes from a combination of clitoris and glitter, which just about sums up the magic of doing some DJ-ing in the basement (our previously preferred term).

And just to make Sweden’s pro-masturbation attitude even better, The Local reports that ‘klittra’ was the most-used new word in Sweden for 2015.

Great news, really, because it indicates that people in Sweden are using the new word to its full use, and proudly discussing the joy of self-pleasure for women.

No. But there may be fish. A lot of alcohol is strained through isinglass, which is dried fish swim bladders (nice).

The 14 Christmas presents you'd love to receive that prove you're now middle aged

Everyone enjoys getting a present. Everyone appreciates the thought gone into the choosing, buying and giving of a gift.

But at Christmas, those of us who have started to prefer staying in where it’s warm to going out and referring to anyone under the age of 30 as ‘youngsters’, we don’t want to get anything too fancy.

In fact as we reach a certain ‘comfortable’ age we’d quite like presents that are useful, edible, don’t take up too much room or any effort to get working.

And so, if you’d be happy to receive one (or most) of the 14 presents listed below then maybe it’s time to admit to a little middle age?

How about if this well-intentioned message was written in a Christmas card?

Well it seems this train passenger didn’t agree with the note received from what looked like a worried friend, and so they ripped it up.

Seems a little harsh, no? Of course, we don’t know the relationship between these two people, perhaps there was some heartbreak or a little bad blood.

One passenger was an intrigued as we are and decided to find all of the pieces and put them back together.

A man thinks when his girlfriend is dressed in a large white and green striped candy cane costume is the perfect time to propose.

She’s wearing stilts to make her into the giant candy cane and can be seen covering her face in complete shock as her loved one gets down on one knee to propose.

This cat is SO over Christmas already

This cat is SO over Christmas already http://ift.tt/1TftIv1 hattiegladwellmetro

For some, the excitement that Christmas is just around the corner now is so great that they simply can’t think of anything else. But for others, they’re more excited for Boxing Day – a day that confirms Christmas is over.

They’re counting down the minutes in their heads, until they can sneak off back to their own lives without having to spread festive cheer to people they don’t particularly even like. They’re over Christmas before it’s even begun.

And you know who else is completely over Christmas already? This cat.

Posted by America’s Funnies Home Videos, this video shows a tabby cat struggling to get a Santa’s hat off of his head. Obviously the hat wasn’t his choice – that shows all too well.

While we can’t confirm whether the hat just wasn’t his colour, or perhaps he thought the style didn’t suit him particularly well, we do know that he wants the hat… Read the full story http://ift.tt/1TftGmK December 22, 2015 at 07:17PM

Being a responsible adult it’s easy to forget how it felt to be a kid unwrapping a new toy with breathless joy.

Remember how grown up you felt with your peel off nail varnish? How proud you were of your strange plastic meal preparation? How responsible you felt for that doll? Or how exciting it was to put Beauty the Afghan Hound in her basket?

Take a little trip down toy memory lane and remind yourself of the presents you were desperate to find under the Christmas tree in the 80s – because I’m sure some of these toys would make our adult lives a far happier place today:

Science has proven that a glass of red wine has the same effects as a workout at the gym

Science has proven that a glass of red wine has the same effects as a workout at the gym http://ift.tt/1m4C2TU hattiegladwellmetro

It almost sounds too good to be true, but thankfully, it is not.

According to scientific researchers at Canada’s University of Alberta, red wine holds the same natural compound – resveratrol – as nuts and grapes – which, when tested on mice, improved their physical performance, heart function and muscle strength.

And while of course, we can’t really compare ourselves to mice on all levels, it seems the compound really does benefit us too.

Lead investigator Jason Dyck told Science Daily: ‘Resveratrol showed results similar to what you would see from extensive endurance exercise training.

Resveratrol could help patient populations who want to exercise but are physically incapable. Resveratrol could mimic exercise for them or improve the benefits of the modest amount of exercise that they can do.’

In short, that means red wine possesses ingredients that create the same effects as going to the gym. So, by drinking a glass of… Read the full story http://ift.tt/1NHEg2a December 21, 2015 at 07:47PM

what is more cuterus than your uterus

Let’s be real. Are you actually best friends if you’ve never discussed the inner workings of your uteri?

No. No you are not. True BFFs are there to give each other a tampon when they need it, advise each other on what a normal amount of cramping and pain is, and will happily discuss ovulation schedules when one friend is trying to get pregnant.

And if one friend has a hysterectomy, the greatest friend will make her a cuddly uterus. Because that’s what friends do.

One woman who has stepped up to the task is Lolareola, who shared her creation on Reddit. Her little uterus buddy even has one last period.

To clarify, the cuddly uterus – or cuterus, as we like to call it – doesn’t have ovaries as Lolareola’s friend didn’t have a radical hysterectomy, so she still has her… Read the full story http://ift.tt/1MiEVoI December 17, 2015 at 10:46AM

This is Ethan. Ethan went for a run in the rain on Sunday night, bumped into a local Illinois news crew doing a live weather forecast, and became the internet’s new crush.

Ethan was going about his business, enjoying an evening jog, in his shorts and, um, just his shorts, when he bumped into a WGN TV forecaster in the middle of a report.

Knowing TV gold when he saw it, the reporter decided to interview Ethan live on air, in the middle of a pretty heavy downpour.

He starts with the obvious question: ‘Dude, where is your shirt man?’ To which Ethan responds, cheerily: ‘Um, yeah, it’s a great day for a run, so it’s too wet to wear a shirt, you know?’

‘And you’re also, like, in shorts. It’s mid-December, how’s that possible?’, the presenter points out, reasonably.

Let’s talk about sex.

School taught us a lot about sex. Well, by a lot we mean how to put condoms on bananas.

Then there were the rumours we heard from the older kids, which sounded unbelievable but we were all too embarrassed to ask (turns out, they really were making it up).

By the time we’re old enough to start seriously considering doing the deed, most of us will have absorbed a lot of information about sex – almost all of it wrong.

So what are the truths about sex that we wish we’d known beforehand? Reddit asked people to reveal the things you won’t know until you start having sex.

1. ‘There are a lot of funny noises’

Sex basically consists of body parts hitting or rubbing against one another, with the addition of a lot of bodily fluids. There’s going to be noise, and not just the moaning kind.

The key is to not be embarrassed… Read the full story http://ift.tt/1TKYjQQ December 14, 2015 at 02:41PM

Bad news for really, really ridiculously good-looking males out there: Your attractiveness might be getting in the way of your career.

Good-looking men are seen as a threat by their male bosses and are discriminated against in the workplace, according to a study.

Researchers at University College London and the University of Maryland found that when men were responsible for hiring other men, their decision was affected by the attractiveness of the candidate.

As a result, handsome men tended to stay in less important positions in workplace teams.

Welcome to the season where constant dry skin makes you feel a bit reptile like.

Sure winter is great because it gives us stuff like Christmas, the ability to eat several mince pies in one sitting without judgement, and of course the excitement of shopping for a new coat.

But there are some drawbacks, such as the endless beauty problems the drop in temperature causes. No longer can you skip out the front door without slathering yourself in cream, or a hat, because now you have to take a whole heap of precautions.

1. Chapped lips

You can kiss goodbye (see what we did there?) to having soft lips, because they will be cracked, peeling, and generally quite disgusting, all thanks to the cold weather. Best keep a XXL tub of lip balm nearby at all times.
